Pulp Octopus

Pulp fiction is great and the covers are the best part.

You agree, yes?

It’s Pulp Fiction week at Slate.com, and they have lots of interesting articles. What I like the best is that they commissioned artists to make pulp-style illustrations of some of the great works, and really they are fantastic.

What really caught my eye were the links to pulp fiction cover galleries: Here is a place with cool postcards based on covers and here is information and illustrations of Canadian covers. State University of New York at Buffalo has “The George Kelley Paperback and Pulp Fiction Collection.” If UNC had that, I think I would finally be content.

Oh, and here is a collection of covers that feature octopi and the women who love them.

Okay, I'll admit it: I'm the type of sneaky person who occasionally the blogs of people I know, but never ever comments. The pulp octopi, though? I spent maybe too much time looking at them earlier this evening. They are absolutely delightful and it's always good to know that there are other people out there who appreciate such great kitsch, if that word even begins to encompass it. My favorite are definitely the covers for classics-- the tag line for Little Women is the best.

ps. It's Elizabeth Szypulski, from WXYC and Great Books, if you didn't guess.

pps. Your posts are always really fantastic, by the way. I don't think I really have much to show in return. If you click on my name, you get a link to this blog for a fake-character-driven radio show an old boyfriend did last fall. You offer interesting linked articles and funny commentary, and in return, I only have fake reviews and MS Paint edited pictures of someone called DJ Shakes. What can I say?
